How To Increase Your IMDB STARmeter Ranking for FREE!

IMDb is used by film industry professionals to research actors, movies, production companies and more. If you are an actor, having a high IMDb STARmeter ranking gets your name listed on top of the IMDb page of the movie you are in. STARmeter is basically an online popularity thermometer. It is a number that ranks every person on IMDb’s public site (the lower the number you have on your profile, the more popular it deems you.)
For example, if you are one of the cast members of a popular movie like Star Trek, your name will be listed on the main page of the main cast list. Millions of obsessed Trekkies would then click on your name to know more about you, and this visit to your IMDb page increases your STARmeter, (Which It Did For Me!)
IMDb rates the popularity of the movie, actors, crew and production companies based on how many visits and in-bound visitors it receives. It uses an algorithm that detects the incoming traffic and referring websites. This is why an actor’s ranking spikes up when his/her film is released or announced. I have especially noticed a spike on my IMDb page when I am attached to studio films with famous actors.
Most actors, or movie IMDb pages are ranked in the 100,000 to 1 million range. These pages get very little or no exposure whatsoever. This is why actors pay thousands of dollars to have their profile featured in the front page of IMDb, by companies who charge to boost your ranking. As a fellow actor, and producer I do not recommend doing it this way.
There are better actor-friendly ways to maximize your IMDB ranking. One of them Is through Karmalicity. Here is the premise of Karmalicity: What if a group of actors agree to visit my IMDb page if I in turn will check out their page and LIKE it? Having a consistent flow of page views and likes will increase and hopefully stabilize your IMDB STARmeter ranking. It’s a win win situation and doesn’t way deep on a struggling actors pocketbook.

You can also attach your Facebook Fan Page, Twitter account, and You Tube Channel to the site. As the same way it increases your IMDb ranking, it will also up your Likes, Followers, and Subscribers on those pages.
So how does all this impact the everyday working (and often not working) actor? It means that you need people looking at your IMDB page to boost your ranking and to keep it from dropping into a black hole. And for most of us actors, the STARmeter ranking can fluctuate wildly over time, often over a short period. My personal STARmeter ranking has gone from as low as 2,142 to as high as 38,000. So whoever is reading this, like my IMDB page cause I need some STARmeter love!
Other ways to make sure people are clicking on your IMDb page is to link it to your website, your Facebook page, your Facebook fan page, your Twitter, your You Tube Channel, your Blogger, your Linkedin, your email signature, and anywhere else you can think to put it. You never know when someone might click that link. It also doesn’t hurt to tweet or post it every now and again.
My Advice to Actors: Remember why you became an actor or film maker in the first place. Having a high IMDb ranking is great, but being a great actor is even better. What does it matter if your ranking is high if you hardly have any credits to your name? What I am trying to say is this: don’t waste all of your time and energy worrying about your Starmeter. Working on your craft, making a short film, networking with other actors, etc. is going to do more for your career than the other. Is it important? Yes, but not as important as becoming the best possible actor you can be. Have a balance, spend your free time wisely, and do something everyday to further your career. It took me over 15 years of hard work and perseverance to start working consistently. So I say to you this: Stick with it, work hard, and don’t ever give up on your dream. No matter how bad it may look at the moment becoming a great artist takes time, and if you persevere you will come out a Winner!
